Last month Ben Moorhouse took on the Rhodes Extreme Challenge Walk, in aid of The Steve Prescott Foundation, which was sponsored by Kingstone Press.

The challenge saw Ben become the first person to walk the entire circumference of the Greek island of Rhodes in under 48 hours, which is a gruelling 150 miles. He faced extreme heat and humidity as temperatures soared to 44°c in the midst of the recent European heatwave.

Upon completing the Rhodes Extreme Challenge Walk, Ben was honoured at the finish line by Greek government official, Yiannis Flevaris.

So far £3,500 has been raised from this year’s walk and all the proceeds will support the foundation that set up in 2007 following rugby league legend Steve Prescott’s diagnosis with a rare type of cancer. The aim of the charity is to raise funds for the Christie Hospital, a leading cancer treatment centre in Europe, and Try Assist, the Rugby Football League's benevolent fund.

Speaking about the challenge, Ben said: “Physically and mentally I was fully prepared and the extreme challenge walk was beyond extreme. I had to go to places both emotionally and mentally I had not been before to keep me going.

“The pain I went through to complete this was off the scale. Most people would have thrown in the towel, but to take on obstacles that are put in front of you is how you will be remembered - and how you keep on trying makes you stronger.

“Using Steve Prescott's belief "what the mind believes the body achieves" helped me. I had total disregard for my own health and wellbeing, but not finishing was simply not an option.”

Glen Friel, Sales and Marketing Director, at Aston Manor Cider, said: “We’re incredibly proud to have supported the challenge that Ben completed this summer. Everyone at Aston Manor and Kingstone Press is incredibly proud and in awe of the mental and physical courage needed to take on such a feat.

“Kingstone Press has had a longstanding relationship with rugby league in the UK. Steve Prescott has had a huge impact on the sport, not only from his playing days, but also in his memory through the foundation. His legacy continues through events like the Rhodes Extreme Challenge Walk 2018 and the money raised will help many people that truly need it.”
