Aston Manor Cider has been named as one of the top sustainable businesses in the alcohol industry at The Drinks Business Green Awards 2019.

The business collected the Amorim Sustainability Award for Cider at a ceremony in London.

Aston Manor impressed the judges with its extensive sustainability agenda and commitment to reducing its environmental impact.  As part of the programme, the cider maker switched to 51% recycled content in all large pack (PET) plastic bottles, a first for the alcoholic drinks industry, which will save approximately 1,000 tonnes of raw material annually.

The most recent stage of Aston Manor’s programme has seen the cider maker install an eco-card packing machine to replace shrink wrap and plastic rings with card equivalents for its multipack canned ciders.

Jamie Weall, head of compliance at Aston Manor Cider, said: “We are thrilled to add another prestigious sustainability award to our trophy cabinet. This has capped off a memorable 2019 for the business.

“We have been making great strides with our sustainability agenda for a number of years now, so it is fantastic to be recognised as one of the best businesses in the drinks industry for our commitment to the environment.

“Throughout the business everyone is excited to continue developing and progressing our sustainability agenda in the new year. We are working hard to introduce even more industry leading initiatives that have a lasting impact.”

Aston Manor’s sustainable practices have been lauded at several industry awards in 2019. The business was named Green Business of the Year and Company of the Year at the Birmingham Post Business Awards, as well as collecting the Large Business of the Year prize at the West Midlands Business Masters.

The Drinks Business Green Awards 2019 is the world’s largest programme to raise awareness of green issues in the drinks trade. It recognises and rewards those who are leading the way in sustainability and environmental performance.
